The post Zixi reports 2023 annual results, growth in OTT appeared first on NewscastStudio.

]]>
In 2023, Zixi’s annual recurring revenue from OTT customer grew 100% year over year with most utilizing Zixi as a Service (ZaaS). Broadcaster customers grew over 30% and globally Zixi’s SDVP was used to broadcast over 1.5M live sporting events.

This growth is reflective of the industry’s continued transformation and need for agile, cost-effective IP video workflows; Zixi’s continued thought leadership and investment in product innovation; and the company’s commitment to customers and their desire to improve the efficiency, flexibility and scale of complex live IP video workflows in affiliate distribution, live events and satellite replacement use cases.

Fox Corporation and Estrella Media are representative examples of the company’s efforts and success in 2023. Fox deployed Zixi for the delivery of channels from their 190 local affiliates to their digital MVPD partners using the Zixi Broadcaster to ensure broadcast quality live video over IP and the ZEN Master control plane for system management, automation, orchestration and advanced monitoring. Estrella Media now delivers via Zixi a wide range of programming including news and entertainment to dozens of locations with the advanced telemetry provided by ZEN Master and error free, ultra-low latency delivery also enabled in their fleet of Harmonic devices. With a simple software update, Estrella Media was able to switch on Zixi and leverage their existing infrastructure as part of new IP-based workflows. Fox is a great example of Zixi’s ability to scale and deliver IP based, broadcast quality distribution in the cloud while Estrella Media illustrates how easy it is to deploy Zixi’s software while preserving a customer’s investment in their existing infrastructure.

Zixi also saw tremendous growth of the Zixi Enabled Network ecosystem of partners, which was highlighted by Singular.live, Red5, Videon, MediaKind, Streann Media, XL8 and many others that standardized on Zixi for their service offerings. In addition, the Zixi Broadcaster and ZEN Master, which are available in the AWS Marketplace, were added to the Azure Marketplace and GCP Marketplace for public and private sales. The ability to license Zixi via AWS, GCP and Azure marketplaces provides tremendous flexibility and options for customers to deploy Zixi in public cloud infrastructures with the added benefit of customers being able to use their Enterprise Agreement dollars and keep everything on a single bill while maintaining direct contact with Zixi and the technical team.

In 2023, Zixi continued to innovate and further its industry leading position, particularly in energy efficiency and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). New capabilities of the SDVP, including ultra-low latency with unparalleled throughput, as well as compute and efficiency improvements, were introduced to extend Zixi’s ability to deliver the lowest TCO in the industry. In the latest v17, the Zixi Broadcaster requires 80% less compute and 50% lower egress cost compared to open source and standards-based approaches, empowering organizations to maximize their resources, minimize expenses and deliver high-quality video content reliably. ARM Processers, including AWS Graviton 2/3, which are 50% of the cost and energy consumption of Linux, are also supported, with profound impact on the TCO of video streaming implementations. The superior efficiency eliminates the need for excessive virtual machines, leading to reduced infrastructure requirements and substantial cost savings enabling content creators and distributors to effortlessly reach worldwide audiences, creating powerful acceleration of new content acquisition, business models and opportunities to reduce cost and generate revenue. The groundbreaking efficiency developments have the added benefit of being focused on sustainability and a 70% reduction in carbon, which is an important goal of the company.

Zixi innovation and product excellence was widely recognized in 2023 with multiple awards including TV Tech Best of Show for the SDVP, TVB Europe Best of Show for 5G, CSI Awards for Best 5G or Mobile Video Technology or Service, IBC Innovation Award for Remote Production, the Intelligent Data Platform (IDP) NAB Show Product of the Year, the Zixi D2C Media Gateway winning the NAB Show Product of the Year, and Zixi-as-a-Service (ZaaS) taking the NextTV Best of Show. Zixi also received a “GOLD” for the IDP in the “QC/QA Monitoring” category, a BRONZE for ZaaS and a SPECIAL MERIT for Live Transcoder for “Media Processing” from the Digital Media World Awards that help broadcasters, service providers, producers and many others adapt to the evolving content production and distribution landscape.

“2023 was a tremendous success by all accounts, as evidenced by our company growth, customer success, product innovation and industry recognition. At a scale and scope unparalleled in the market, we have made Zixi the only option to efficiently deploy large scale IP distribution and contribution systems reliably and securely with innovation improvements that are focused on sustainability and lowering total cost of ownership” said Gordon Brooks, CEO, Zixi. “In 2024 we look forward to working with our customers and partners to deliver live IP video with ultra-low latency, remotely with ease and cost savings.”

Matrox Video today announced its activities for Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2024, Jan. 30-Feb. 2 in Barcelona. Matrox Video has solidified its position as a leader in AV-over-IP distribution technologies, manufacturing essential products to drive modern AVoIP applications. In Booth 5D500, Matrox Video will display a selection from its complete portfolio of products designed for networked, IP-based control rooms and live production environments.

Control Room Collaboration Over IP
In the Control Room Collaboration pod, attendees will see how Matrox Video’s encoders and decoders, IP KVM extension and switching solutions, and video wall controllers enable smooth and seamless collaboration over IP and increase operator efficiency and decision-making. To demonstrate, the pod will feature a video wall and an operator workspace driven by the following Matrox Video products:

Matrox Extio 3 IP KVM extenders and KMLync USB keyboard/mouse switches enhance operator efficiency by enabling remote monitoring and control of systems across a multimonitor workspace with up to four 4K or 16 full-HD displays. In this way, operators can visualize more data and seamlessly control — with one keyboard and mouse — multiple systems that have 4K/quad-FHD video ports, fast switching, and built-in multiview capability. A secure and scalable IP KVM matrix system, Extio 3 operates at very low bit rate over Gigabit Ethernet LAN, WAN, and the internet.
Matrox Maevex encoders/decoders for H.264/H.265 streaming and recording – Maevex 6100 Series and Maevex 7100 Series offer high-quality, high-density, ultra-low latency live streaming and recording to capture and share all AV sources and data points for all kinds of collaborative applications. Users can pair Maevex 6100 Series encoders and decoders to achieve full-frame synchronization from multiple sources. The Maevex-captured streams can be displayed on a Matrox LUMA Pro-powered video wall.

Matrox LUMA Pro graphics cards leverage Intel® Arc GPUs to create versatile baseband and IP-based video wall systems with robust H.264/H.265 decoding. LUMA Pro supports up to two 8Kp60, two 5Kp120, or four 5Kp60 DisplayPort 2.1 monitors, and users can combine cards for a high-density-output video wall of up to 16 synchronized 5Kp60 displays. Frame-locking up to four LUMA Pro cards facilitates easy addition and synchronization of displays. Featuring advanced GPU-based media codec engines and supported by Matrox Mura software libraries, these cards enable the decoding and display of over 40 full-HD streams per card. Also on display will be a new quad HDMI® capture PCI Express® card engineered for video wall use cases that require high-density HDMI streams up to 4Kp60.

Video Production, Routing, and Distribution
This pod will focus on live production in pro AV and the use of SMPTE ST 2110 in live event venues, such as theaters or corporate and government environments where the organization is working with live events, producing and mixing live content for distribution locally and beyond. The pod will demonstrate how easy and cost effective it is to distribute Panasonic Kairos live production content locally within the organization’s LAN with Matrox ConvertIP converters and ultra-low latency encoders/decoders. These compact appliances support both SMPTE ST 2110 and IPMX and preserve the quality and real-time nature of the live event content they are distributing, while also simplifying network requirements and working within the organization’s standard network infrastructure.

The ConvertIP demo will also show the new daisy-chain feature that reduces installation costs and increases network efficiency and resiliency. In environments like stadiums and arenas, airports and transportation hubs, and in various digital signage applications, ConvertIP daisy-chaining makes it possible to distribute multiple streams of content efficiently and cost-effectively throughout the physical environment. Facilities get more out of any active network port, use less network equipment, and reduce installation of network wiring runs. All of this equals lower cost and more efficient and effective installations.

Streaming and Recording
Pro AV users interested in streaming and recording H.264/H.265 content with ultra-low latency will see Matrox Maevex encoders and decoders in action. Matrox Maevex 6100 Series encoders/decoders and the new Maevex 7100 Series encoders enable multichannel, ultra-low latency, low bitrate, high-quality, simultaneous streaming and recording and zero-latency pass-through for real-time output of AV content in collaboration-focused environments. With these capabilities, operators can distribute critical content to any location to facilitate informed, accurate, real-time decision-making.

Besides the pod demonstrations, Matrox Video will showcase the Matrox ConvertIP Series at a few partner booths, including AIMS, AMD, Panasonic, and NETGEAR. On Feb. 1, Matrox Video will host a cocktail party in its booth (5D500). Attendees are invited to stop by for drinks and light appetizers from 4 to 6 p.m. and visit the Matrox Video booth throughout the show for other exciting opportunities.

More information about Matrox Video and its products is available at video.matrox.com.

The post Fox launches Verify: Open source protocol to address content authenticity appeared first on NewscastStudio.

]]>
Fox Corp has launched Verify, a new technical protocol designed to address the burgeoning challenges posed by artificial intelligence, especially the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in content generation.

This initiative has emerged in response to the growing concern over the unauthorized use of media content by AI platforms, a situation that has seen media companies either blocking AI crawlers or resorting to legal actions, such as the recent lawsuit by The New York Times against OpenAI.

Verify is unique in its dual purpose.

It allows media companies to register their content, thereby establishing usage rights for AI platforms, including attribution and potential compensation. This is achieved through a blockchain-based system of ‘smart contracts.’ Simultaneously, Verify provides consumers with a tool to confirm the authenticity of content, particularly images and article links, from recognized sources.

The public release of Verify, along with its first application – the Verify Tool – marks Fox Corp’s commitment to addressing the twin issues of intellectual property infringement and content verification in the digital age. The Verify Tool, a web-based solution, allows users to authenticate the origin of images and articles, ostensibly ensuring their credibility and source accuracy.

Developed by the Fox Technology team in collaboration with Polygon Labs, Verify leverages blockchain technology to sign pieces of content cryptographically and is hosted on GitHub.

This establishes their origin and allows consumers to independently verify said origins. The integration with Fox’s content management system (CMS) indicates the protocol’s potential for seamless adoption in online publishing workflows.

It is important to note the distinction that Verify can only confirm if the content is “authentic” and was published by an entity. It cannot confirm or verify if the content is misinformation, fake, or AI-generated.

There is a bit of irony in the launch of Verify, however, given the litigation surrounding coverage of Dominion Voting Systems by Fox and later defamation lawsuit settlement by the network for $787.5 million. The network is currently facing a second defamation lawsuit from Smartmatic.

In our testing of the Verify Tool, content such as a 2022 midterm election recap and a story about Michigan’s national football title quickly passed verification.

However, Fox’s editorial story noting the settlement between the network and Dominion Voting Systems in April 2023 would not verify. NewscastStudio has contacted Fox Corporation for more details about why one article would verify and another, more recent article on the same CMS platform, would not.

The introduction of the Verify protocol by Fox represents a significant step in addressing the complex challenges posed by AI in the media industry and will surely not be the only solution brought to the table.

Verify could serve as a prototype for the industry’s engagement with emerging technologies by safeguarding intellectual property rights and ensuring content authenticity.

Verify is also the brand name for a fact-checking and anti-misinformation franchise created by Tegna and used by most of its television stations in markets across the country.

Along with the game, the pregame, halftime and postgame show will also be delivered in 1080p HDR and 4K HDR.

CBS Sports notes the enhanced presentation with “HDR expands the ability of a television set to better display detail in shadow and bright scenes. Wide Color Gamut (WCG) enables a display to present a broader and more vivid range of colors. Together, HDR and WCG offer viewers a brighter and more colorful viewing experience.  These technologies, combined with enhanced display formats such as 1080p and 4K, will allow CBS Sports to deliver a truly realistic football presentation for Super Bowl LVIII viewers with capable television setups.”
