]]> Broadcast set design for Gray Television’s KMOV that debuted in December 2023 alongside a broadcast facility move. Formerly based in downtown St. Louis, KMOV relocated to the suburb of Maryland Heights.

The project includes two large studios, each with unique elements. The main news studio includes a custom anchor desk with the “4” logo, LED displays, and a curved LED background with a brick wall. It also has a multipurpose area, weather section with a custom desk and displays and an interview set with a mobile riser and working staircase.

The lifestyle studio, used for “Great Day” and “My St. Louis LIVE!,” includes a fully functional kitchen set with modern appliances, a flexible home base set with LED displays, and a loft set with multiple standup areas and a bookcase backdrop. Both studios utilize materials like dimensional brick, real wood veneers and faux steel I-beams in their design.

New First Alert 4 branding and the GrayONE motion graphics package also debuted with the move.

]]> WNBC inaugurated its new set inside Studio 3B East at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2023. Designed by Jack Morton Worldwide, the studio features a plethora of video walls following the ultra-modern aesthetic common among NBC-owned stations.

WNBC moves into its half of the newly-split Studio 3B

This move is part of a significant structural update at 30 Rock, splitting the larger Studio 3B into two smaller spaces, with the other half becoming the future home for Telemundo station WNJU.

The new WNBC set includes a dynamic anchor desk, a variety of LED video walls for versatile broadcasting and updated technology.

Launched in 2022, the studio features multiple distinct production zones that seamlessly merge to form a unified, branded setting catering to a variety of production needs. Among the notable features is a sizable chroma key space for immersive virtual and augmented reality explainers, facilitating engaging and interactive conveyance of complex concepts.

The versatile studio setup, including a mobile anchor desk and dedicated spaces for 1:1 interviews and podcasts, significantly enhances SEE’s internal communication, industry presentations, and also serves as a rental production space, exemplifying SEE’s dedication to leveraging advanced technology for broader engagement and industry collaboration.

]]> Production designer James Pearse Connelly utilized Kelly Clarkson’s move of her talk show to New York City in the fall of 2023 as an opportunity to re-envision the show’s set, blending Clarkson’s eclectic personality with the metropolitan aura of the new locale.

NYC ‘Kelly Clarkson’ set harmonizes the artist’s evolution since Season 1 with new host city

Located inside Studio 6A at NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the set design features an urban, Soho recording studio vibe, integrating walnut slatted walls and loft-style sliding glass doors, while retaining some familiar elements like a faux masonry wall with “KC” lettering from its California predecessor.

The revamped layout, which now features an L-shaped audience seating configuration, aims to foster a closer connection between Clarkson and her audience, enhancing the interactive energy of the show and allowing for a variety of segment setups despite the spatial challenges of the new studio. The detailed design, incorporating elements reminiscent of a recording studio and classic built-in cabinetry, encapsulates a harmonious blend of Clarkson’s musical roots, a cozy ambiance, and a modern New York City aesthetic.

]]> C-SPAN relocated its “Washington Journal” program to a new set inside Studio A in October 2023, moving away from its previous windowed studio at 400 N. Capitol Street. The show now shares Studio A with other C-SPAN programming, each with a distinctive space inside the studio. 

Designed by Eric Siegel and George Allison, the modern setup includes a triangular conversation table and vertical LED panels that display live or recorded views of notable Washington D.C. landmarks or graphics for special broadcasts, enhancing the visual experience and flexibility of the program.

The patriotic palette of the set is created by blue-washed background walls complemented by a striking red-and-white printed carpet featuring a map of the District of Columbia. Red-accented decorative diffusion panels in each of the wider views tie the shots together.

The revamp also enables evening broadcasts for events like the State of the Union Address, expanding the program’s airing schedule, while the redesigned studio layout facilitates better shooting angles and co-existence of multiple C-SPAN programs without compromising their distinct aesthetics.

]]> In April 2023, TalkTV relocated its operations from Timeline Television in Ealing to the headquarters of News UK, known as The News Building in the London Bridge neighborhood of London.

Originally, a small virtual studio in The News Building was used for select hours of programing, with Timeline Television used for prime programming including “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” With the move, all operations are in a centralized location with two physical studios at their disposal. 

The primary set includes large LED walls and an L-shaped desk for talent such as Piers Morgan, Jeremy Kyle and Tom Newton Dunn. The secondary set includes a large couch with a softer styling for programs such as “The Talk.”

]]> Set for Nova TV which debuted in early 2023 along with the move to a new broadcast facility. The design expands upon Nova TV’s prior design, which included a newsroom background and curved anchor desk. 

The new studio covers nearly 6,500 square feet and includes 4K cameras and multiple large LED video walls. The studio is dominated by the presenters’ desk which can rotate 360 degrees to utilize different backgrounds.
