AJA Video Systems has released Dante AV 4K v1.1, the first update for its Dante AV 4K-T and 4K-R transmitter/receiver converters, which enable the transport and control of ultra-low latency, professional quality 4K/UltraHD/2K/HD/VESA Dante video and audio to/from 12G-SDI or HDMI 2.0 devices over a 1 GigE Dante AV network.

Available today as a free download, the robust update extends the capabilities of both devices with user-inspired improvements that answer modern workflow demands and provide AV professionals with more flexibility in the field as they integrate high-quality, visually lossless video into a diverse range of AV-over-IP environments.

With high dynamic range (HDR) workflows continuing to gain in popularity across broadcast, production, and proAV, AJA Dante AV 4K v1.1 delivers support for HDR, ensuring HDR signals pass through the devices seamlessly and that users can easily change the HDR metadata on outputs received. The release also introduces AJA Dante AV 4K-R support for Ref In, so that a device like the AJA GEN 10 HD/SD sync generator may be used to lock the output of the 4K-R when the signal must be combined with other baseband device outputs and sources. Furthermore, AJA Dante AV 4K v1.1 activates a second locking ethernet port (Eth2) on the device, allowing users to connect a second device to their Dante AV switch, without a second ethernet cable needing to be connected directly to the switch.

New cropping and scale resizing capabilities for 4K-R, available via the update, let users easily scale 4K to UHD and downscale UHD to HD, with the ability to select between Auto, Native, and Crop 4K to UHD/Scale UHD to HD. AJA Dante AV 4K v1.1 also validates select 4K and 8K 4×4 workflows where AJA 4K-T signals can be sent to four 4K-Rs and all four outputs are confirmed to be in time and in sync, which is essential in live production settings where all four outputs must be perfectly timed. 3G Level B 4:2:2 10-bit high frame rate is now supported as well. Added compatibility with Audinate’s Dante Domain Manager, which is available for purchase from valued resellers worldwide, ensures AJA 4K-R and 4K-T users can take advantage of the solution’s API to control Dante from touch panels, monitor status, and automate workflows.

Commenting on the update, Audinate Senior Product Manager Wim Roose shared, “AJA has proven to be a great addition to the Dante AV family, and we’ve been thrilled to watch customers worldwide embrace AJA Dante AV 4K-T and 4K-R to capitalize on the benefits of Dante audio with synchronized, high-quality, ultra low latency networked video. It’s exciting to see AJA deliver a new update less than a year since launching their products and we’re looking forward to continuing our partnership with them, which will help advance IP workflows across pro AV and media and entertainment.”

“There’s no singular path to video over IP, and workflows vary broadly, depending upon the approach, so we’re continuously investing in bringing new features to AJA’s 4K-R and 4K-T that give users the tools they need to achieve their vision,” shared AJA President Nick Rashby. “AJA Dante AV 4K v1.1 boasts a ton of new great features for users to explore, and we’re excited to see how they start leveraging them.”

Pricing and Availability
AJA Dante AV 4K v1.1 is available today from AJA’s support page as a free download. AJA Dante AV 4K-T and 4K-R can be purchased through AJA’s worldwide network of resellers for $2495 US MSRP each. For rack-mounting up to two units, the 1RU AJA IOX-RM rack mount shelf accessory is available for $120 US MSRP. For more information, visit www.aja.com/dante-av-ultra.

]]>
Tools for interpretation are important in today’s global AV and broadcast industries, with specialized personnel required to manage single- and multi-language feeds. This ranges from small meetings and live events to large bureaucratic organizations; any production where there is a multi-language audience. Studio Technologies, manufacturer of high-quality audio, video, and fiber-optic solutions, is well-known for creating specialized Dante-enabled products that ease communication within the production workflow, and it’s now excited to offer a device specifically for interpretation use, the Model 201 Interpreter’s Console. Making its debut at ISE 2024 (Stand CS530, Congress Square), the Model 201 is a Dante® audio-over-Ethernet-enabled unit that is suitable for use in single- or multi-language situations both locally or in off-site/remote applications.

The Model 201 creates a complete interpreter position and includes both standard features as well as advanced functionalities that are not typically provided by “off-the-shelf” interpretation equipment. The Model 201 includes the ability to create two independent interpretation audio channels. Configuration choices allow a variety of audio content to be included in the interpretation audio; content that can be automatically muted or dimmed (reduced in level) when interpretation is active. This is especially important for off-site or Internet streaming applications.

A dual-channel (stereo) headphone output can be configured to meet the needs of the interpreter. This includes selecting the audio sources, channel routing, and sidetone (confidence) signal operation. A set of buttons and rotary controls allow the user to establish the site-specific operating condition they desire.

• Separate interpret active and mic mute buttons allow the connected microphone to be routed to the desired interpretation channels as well as being momentarily muted.
• An independent talkback function, which allows a separate audio path to be established from the interpreter to production personnel.
• A slow down function, which allows the interpreter to signal to the presenter (the originator or “floor” source) that speaking more slowly is warranted.

While the Model 201 can be used by itself to create a simple, single-language interpretation position, it can easily become part of a multi-language, feature-rich application. By utilizing Dante technology, one or more Model 201 units can integrate with other Studio Technologies’ products to achieve a sophisticated voice interpretation system.

The Model 201 provides a 2-channel (stereo) headphone monitor output that is routed to both 5-pin female XLR and 3.5 mm TRRS headset interface connectors. Two pushbutton switches and three rotary controls on the unit’s front panel allow users to select their desired headphone audio sources and signal levels. One pushbutton switch and two associated LED indicators allow direct selection of the desired monitor source, either the “floor” (the person whose text needs to be interpreted) or “relay” (an intermediate audio signal that is usually selected as an interpretation technique to support multiple languages). Two additional Dante receiver (input) audio channels, named Aux 1 and Aux 2, can be used to interface the Model 201 with signal sources such as audio consoles, media playback systems, or remotely located equipment.

The Model 201’s audio quality is excellent, with low distortion, low noise, and ample headroom. Only a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) connection and headset with attached microphone is required for operation. The Model 201 supports both “pro” headsets that use a 5-pin XLR connector as well as “gaming” headsets that use 3.5 mm TRRS plugs. The Model 201 is housed in a compact but rugged steel enclosure that’s intended for table-top use. Its small size makes it ideal for applications in space-constrained locations.

The Model 201 is configured using the STcontroller software application. Available free of charge from Studio Technologies, STcontroller allows production personnel to quickly and easily configure the unit’s operating capabilities to meet an application’s exact needs. STcontroller is offered in versions that are compatible with the WinOS® and macOS™ operating systems.

Studio Technologies will also have a range of its solutions to aid integrators and a range of AV projects at ISE 2024, including its Dante leader clocks, bridges, and intercom engines, as well as announcer consoles and beltpacks.

Al Mashhad (المشهد), the independent news network spearheaded by journalist Tony Khalife, launched with a digital-first concept intended to appeal to a young Arab audience in January.

The network is leveraging technology and unique storytelling styles to push boundaries in news delivery from its Dubai Studio City headquarters.

Acknowledging the generational shift towards digital consumption in the region, Al Mashhad aims to provide its viewers with engaging, informative content accessible across devices.

Making this new broadcast operation possible is a hybrid infrastructure broadcast facility, combining a variety of production formats and outputs, and two 2,600 square feet broadcast studios.

Overall, the facility is vendor agnostic, relying on a variety of mix-and-match companies with most every major supplier represented.

Studios for virtual and physical production

Studio 1 is designed with virtual as its focus and serves and variety of presenter-driven programs, equipped with augmented reality and virtual set technology powered by Zero Density’s Reality solution with rendering from the Unreal Engine.

A large chromakey cyc is included in the studio which is used with three larger-than-life virtual sets, designed by DreamWall in collaboration with the Kennedy Agency – based in Paris.

These sets are used for an array of programming ranging from more traditional news hours to an interview talk show.

Studio 2, which is designed primarily for news coverage, is wrapped by a 32-foot wide motorized video wall and 16-foot LED array along with three additional motorized video displays.

This studio features a muted palette with embedded lighting on the glossy floor.

Both studios include robotic camera systems from Vinten with Grass Valley LDX-98 cameras and Autoscript prompters. Studio 2 also features a dolly from Blackcam Systems.

Lighting for the spaces was provided by Oasis Enterprises using gear from ARRI and Lupo lighting with an ETC control board.

Control room tech

Diversified provided broadcast engineering and integration services to Al Mashhad, equipping the network’s two production control rooms with Ross Video automation and tools from Grass Valley including a K-Frame Production Switcher and Kayenne Video Production Center control surface, with audio mixing from Lawo and intercom from RTS.

Playout for the facility is handled by Pebble’s software-defined architecture.

Another unique area of the facility is three digital production areas, which include Wirecast systems combined with NDI for rapid productions. These feed into a Ateme Titan encoder before streaming to Al Mashhad’s various platforms.

Top reasons an integrator should build your broadcast facility furniture https://www.newscaststudio.com/2021/11/02/broadcast-facility-furniture-control-rooms/ Tue, 02 Nov 2021 19:02:11 +0000 https://www.newscaststudio.com/?p=105147 A big part of any new broadcast or sports production facility is the furniture. The post Top reasons an integrator should build your broadcast facility furniture appeared first on NewscastStudio.

]]>
A big part of any new broadcast or sports production facility is the furniture.

You need a place to land new equipment for technical positions — video switcher tubs, audio mixers, KVM endpoints, displays, and more — that operators use to monitor, communicate, listen, and otherwise do their jobs. Technical furniture can be custom-designed to accommodate all that broadcast equipment so that it has a functional layout, looks nice, is strong enough to last for years, and is integrated in a way that the wiring is clean and manageable.

If you are building a room that has technical furniture, then you have two options: You can go to a cabinet manufacturer or furniture builder for your technical consoles, or you can choose a systems integrator that does in-house fabrication of consoles, monitor walls, rolling carts, and other technical furniture.

There are several advantages to working with a systems integrator that also builds the furniture.

Equipment and workflow expertise

First and foremost, the integrator is more familiar with the equipment that’s going into the consoles than a millwork fabricator is. Integrators understand the operations that are being performed, the relationships between the people, and the relationships between the people and the equipment. Monitor placements, the ergonomics, the distance from a hand to control, layouts — integrators are very finely tuned to exactly those things. For some integrators, they’re also designing the rooms themselves, so the equipment integration and the furniture design go hand in hand. This intimate knowledge is invaluable.

Wiring and cable management expertise

On a related note, integrators understand the nuts and bolts of actually wiring up equipment within a technical console, unlike a cabinet manufacturer that builds the furniture and leaves. Integrators are the ones that install the cable, and they tend to have very strong opinions about proper cable management. That’s because they have experience using the furniture. Because of that experience, you tend to get a better product that is designed more specifically for your needs.

Planning and efficiency

An integrator that also builds consoles can plan the room and the furniture simultaneously, yielding far greater efficiency than working with separate vendors. Such an integrator can help cut back on the decisions and iterations of design that happen on the way to creating a cohesive console design — and get it fabricated quicker than if you had to go back and forth with a tech furniture company. An integrator/fabricator simplifies the whole process by keeping it in-house and coordinating it with the other spokes that make up the wheel of a project. This efficiency, in turn, can shorten the time between start and delivery because these integrators know exactly what’s needed and when.

Flexibility

On top of that, you have increased flexibility because an integrator/fabricator can customize your build, swap parts, or make other changes much quicker and easier than if you have to source it outside.

When it comes to the furniture in your new production facility or broadcast truck, expertise matters. Working with an integrator to build your technical furniture means you get the full spectrum of services required for a well-executed production facility: An expert that designs the furniture, builds the furniture, installs the furniture, installs the cabling and the equipment, and then knows how to use it. And that translates to a more functional, efficient workflow.
